The oldest settlement in Canyon County, Middleton was named for its location between the Keeney's Ferry and the old fort Boise which was the halfway point between the two sites. It was a rest stop for those heading for Keeney's Ferry and included a stage station in the early days of the Oregon Trail. A post office was built in 1866 and a water powered grist mill was added in 1871.
When Boise River suffered a flood in 1872, it cut a new channel and created an island; hence Middleton relocated to a new site after 1880. The city was incorporated in 1910 but the official certificate was not issued until 1971.
Just northeast of Middleton you'll find the Macpaca Farm which breedes Huacaya alpacas. This family-owned farm has been around since 2013 and sell products made from alpacas in addition to selling male and female alpacas. The owners enjoy sharing their knowledge, their fleeces, and love of their wonderful animals
Silverhawk Aviation Academy is located nearby at the Caldwell Industrial Airport. In addition to flying lessons, including helicopter lessons, they offer a selection of helicopter tours over the area.
Little Cow Mountain Farm is just north of Middleton and offers 90 minutes tours of their family farm. The family that owns the property uses sustainable practices in raising their Aberdeen Angus cattle. business. Their farm-fresh store sells eggs and chicken.
One of the Treasure Valley's most popular Halloween attraction is The Haunted World located close to Middleton. It's been referred to as "the scariest haunted house in Idaho. It runs from mid-September through Halloween and its outdoor and indoor attractions take an hour and a half to two hours to enjoy depending on the crowds.
